Moscow Raceway to host World Series by Renault race

Moscow Raceway still under construction

Moscow Raceway, the first and only Formula 1 circuit in Russia, will host the World Series by Renault as its official opening ceremony on July 14-15, 2012.

Sunday evening, after the final race meeting in Barcelona was over, Renault Sport announced the new World Series by Renault schedule 2012. Just 2 weeks after the German round at famous Nürburgring, Moscow Raceway will stage its inaugural race event, the Russian round of World Series by Renault on July 14-15.

The event will, at the same time, become the circuit's official opening ceremony and will provide the expected tens of thousands spectators with the chance to get introduced to high level international and spectacular motorsport – 530 horsepower strong Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0, Eurocup Megane Trophy, support races and various shows in the paddock and on track.

Hans-Joerg Fischer, Executive consultant of Moscow Raceway: “We are extremely happy to have secured a round of the prestigious World Series by Renault for Moscow Raceway. We have arrived in the final construction stage of the project and are well under way preparing operations. We are looking forward to combine this international race event with our official opening ceremony."

Young hopeful drivers will fight it out for the title in major international classes, with the aim of making a name for themselves in motorsport and, for some of them, breaking into F1. Sebastian Vettel, who just yesterday became the youngest two-time champion of Formula 1 is also a graduate of World Series by Renault. Also F1 stars like Robert Kubica, Jaime Alguersuari and Daniel Ricciardo jumped directly from World Series by Renault into F1 Grand Prix racing.

In most World Series by Renault events, spectators are given an opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of motorsport and the chance to see the paddock like in no other competition with pit lane access, autograph sessions with drivers, tours of the starting grid, meeting team mechanics. World Series by Renault events also offer free access to a multitude of activities for all ages like: driving simulators, test-drive centre, driver safety workshops, displays of the Renault range, bouncy castles and many more.

Circuit construction and preparations for the first season 2012 are on time. The International motorsport family has been awaiting for a top-level circuit in Russia for many years and the WSR round will highlight Moscow Raceway as one of the finest international racing venues and first and only Formula 1 circuit in Russia.
