Eury Jr won’t be Danica’s Cup crew chief

Tony Eury Jr.

Tony Eury Jr. says he will be the crew chief for Danica Patrick in the Nationwide Series at JR Motorsports but not in her limited Sprint Cup Series schedule at Stewart-Haas Racing. Eury said no decision has been made on Patrick's crew chief for eight to 10 Cup races, but didn't rule out that SHR might fill that role with somebody already in the company. One possibility could be vice president of competition Matt Borland, who was the crew chief for Ryan Newman when he won the Cup rookie of the year award in 2002. Owner Tony Stewart has been looking for a full-time director of competition since Bobby Hutchens was released earlier in the year. As for Patrick's Cup schedule, Eury has suggested she go to tracks where she hasn't been in her two years of a limited Nationwide schedule. Among his suggestions are Martinsville, Pocono and Sonoma. Eury said if it were up to him he wouldn't begin with the Daytona 500 because Patrick already has run several Nationwide races there and knows what she can do. "She'd be better off going somewhere to help her down the line,'' Eury said. ESPN
