Danica Patrick to appear at GoDaddy.com Bowl parade, game

Racecar driver Danica Patrick is extending her stay in Mobile for the GoDaddy.com Bowl.

Not only will Patrick be the featured speaker at Wednesday's GoDaddy.com Bowl Mayor's Luncheon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center, she will serve as grand marshal for the Greer's/Press-Register Mardi Gras parade that night.

The following day, she will make 2 appearances at the GoDaddy.com Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, performing the pregame coin toss as well as presenting the championship trophy to the winning team afterward.

"We're proud to have Danica Patrick, especially with her association with our sponsor, GoDaddy.com, agree to be the guest speaker at the mayor's luncheon and also take part on game day from start to finish," Jerry Silverstein, president of the GoDaddy.com Bowl, said Wednesday.

Silverstein called it "a plus and a privilege for us to have her here," and said "her presence will add a lot."

Patrick, one of several spokespeople for GoDaddy.com — others include NASCAR drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin, as well as fitness expert Jillian Michaels — is best known as a driver on the IndyCar and NASCAR racing circuits. also has gained national attention as an advertising spokesperson and for modeling assignments, including appearances in recent Sports Illustrated swimsuit editions.

Wednesday's mayor's luncheon is set to begin at noon.

The parade that night will begin at 6:30 and will follow a modified Route A through downtown Mobile. A fireworks display downtown on the Mobile River will begin immediately after the parade.

The next day, the game is set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN.

The game will match Sun Belt Conference member Middle Tennessee State against Mid-American Conference champion Miami of Ohio.
