Chrysler minivans recalled over airbag issues

Chrysler is recalling 367,350 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans from the 2008 model year because water leaks could cause air bags to inflate inadvertently.

Dealers can fix the problem by replacing a heating and cooling drain grommet, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which posted the recall on its Web site today.

Separately, first shift workers at Chrysler plants in Toledo and Brampton, Ont., were sent home today because of delays in parts shipments caused by weather conditions that prevented some suppliers from delivering parts on time.

Chrysler spokesman Jodi Tinson said the company is monitoring the situation and workers will be informed when production will resume. Chrysler produces the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro at one Toledo plant and the Jeep Wrangler in a second plant. Workers at the Brampton factory assemble the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Challenger.
