Clarke heads first day of Portuguese F2 test

Jack Clarke

Britain’s Jack Clarke finished at the top of the timesheets on the first of two days for Formula 2 testing this week. Circulating the Algarve circuit on Thursday, the 22-year-old wrapped up proceedings three tenths of a second faster than compatriot Alex Brundle.

“Fastest in the morning, fastest in the afternoon, fastest overall – I can't ask for more really!" smiled Clarke, who is the stepson of former Formula 1 and British Touring Car driver Julian Bailey.

“I've been right up there all day and hopefully I can do the same tomorrow as well! It's a good feeling and it’s the result of hard work all winter – I've been working on simulators and trying to test as much as possible, preparing quite a lot for these four days, so it’s nice to see the result of my hard work."

“F2 is definitely a strong option for me – as per usual I haven't got a huge budget but I've got a lot of people helping me and I'd certainly like to do this."

After Portimão, Formula 2 will move on to two more days of running at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya next Thursday and Friday.
