Overheard at Indy Bump Day – 3

Indiana summer weather set in at the ole Brickyard, and what was a frantic qualification day has become a long practice session. Sato's team reported to AutoRacing1.com that track temps went up by 25 degrees while they waited in line to qualify, a huge factor in their miserable effort. Teams might be waiting until late in the day in hopes of a break in the temperature, but forecasts don't call for cooling until after the 6:00 pm closing gun.

In the meanwhile, all of the major teams are testing race setups. Penske and Ganassi drivers were out, as were Hamilton, Rahal, Wilson, Carpenter — in fact a total of 33 cars have seen track time today.

Some notables —

Tony Kanaan has only see 223.333 mph, which isn't fast enough to bump Sebastian Saavedra out of the field. Neither Takuma Sato nor Milka Duno have posted fast enough speeds to bump their way in either. Ana Beatriz hasn't seen the track in this afternoon's session, nor did she make a qualification attempt earlier today. Jacques Lazier — literally pulled from his duties running a hospitality room at IMS to take this ride — has yet to take the track in AJ's second car. Tim Wohlford reporting from Indy
