Wheldon’s crashed car fixed

Panther Racing owner John Barnes said Monday that the car Dan Wheldon wrecked in practice Sunday has been repaired, and both car and driver will be ready when the weather allows them to get back on the track.

Barnes blamed the solo spin that sent Wheldon into the wall on tire wear.

"I think we ran a set of tires too long," he said. "They finally failed because we ran 'em down to the cords. A tire went down before he hit the wall."

Wheldon has to be cleared by the Speedway's medical staff, but Barnes said the 2005 Indy winner has only a small bruise on his right foot. The rainout of practice Monday provided an extra day for Wheldon to heal and the team to get his car ready, and Barnes is eager to see what they can do. “We haven't shown anything yet," he said.
