Hamilton: Red Bulls were “just “cruising”

Red Bull is clearly the top car right now

Lewis Hamilton put forth a full effort this weekend at Monaco, and seemed to flirt with the Red Bull's lap times from time to time, only to have Webber lay down another blistering and seemingly effortless lap.

Still, the best the former World Champion could muster was a 5th place result.

"They are still really far ahead," Hamilton told Reuters. "They have been so quick. They didn't even push in this race, they weren't even pushing. It's not scary; it just takes the mickey a little bit.

"They were just not pushing at all, really. It was a bit too easy for them…but I know that we will catch up at some stage and then we will be racing with them and they won't be having such easy races."

Hamilton knows he is with one of the longest running and top winning teams in Formula One history, and that they are simply standing aside and watching the others go past. Still, he doesn't see anything in the works right now that will give them a weapon they need to make a jump up the backside of the Red Bull cars. He does think they have some advantage on the courses with longer straightaway sections due in part to the Mercedes engine power and their F-Duct system.

"Hopefully, we will be able to challenge them down those back straights," Hamilton added. "Things might turn around. The guys might find something in the wind tunnel and we'll have it at the next race. I'm praying every day that we do, although I doubt it will be the case, but you never know what will happen in this sport."
