MIS prez says he would like IndyCar back

Michigan International Speedway president Roger Curtis said he would love to have IndyCar back at the 2-mile superspeedway. Unfortunately, don't expect to see the likes of Helio Castroneves, Dario Franchitti and Danica Patrick tearing around MIS anytime soon.

"Honestly, I think it might be awhile before we get open wheel back here," Curtis said. "That is sad, because that was always my favorite race as a kid. Their financial model right now makes it a little difficult for a track promoter. I think (IndyCar CEO) Randy Bernard and his team down there are going to do a great job and keep things moving in the right direction. I know they have struggled the last couple of years, but hopefully, with the right leadership down there, they will do a nice job and their financial model will be such that it makes it a little more attractive for us to move forward."

"I honestly don't see that in the next year or two," Curtis said. "But I have friends down there and I love IRL racing, and with this sport, we all have short memories and you never say never and you see what happens. I hope it works out."
