Valerio joins Scuderia Coloni

Alberto Valerio will race with Scuderia Coloni in the GP2 Series 2010 season. The 24 year-old Brazilian driver signed the agreement with the team in the past week and will indeed drive one of the Dallara-Renault cars raced by the Italian outfit throughout the season. For Scuderia Coloni it’s a first rate pick, because Paolo Coloni’s expert eyes did notice Valerio’s growth during the 2009 championship: not only the Brazilian driver was consistent but he also clinched his first GP2 victory, in Silverstone race 1, with a dominating performance in which he managed to overtake the future Renault F.1 driver, Romain Grosjean.

That’s why Scuderia Coloni decided to offer him a day of testing at the end of the season in Jerez. There, Valerio showed all his talent posting the second fastest time of the whole three days. That was no surprise because the winning attitude was part of Alberto’s DNA right from the start of his career: he won the South American F3 championship in 2005, and then he was among the top racers in the 2007 British F3.

In order to get acquainted with the team, Valerio will compete with Scuderia Coloni in the GP2 Asia Series next event, in Abu Dhabi on February 5-6; his first Main Series duty will be the official testing session in Le Castellet from March 23 to 25, while the first racing weekend will be on May 8-9 in Barcelona.
