GM statement regarding Saab inquiries

UPDATE #2 UPDATE General Motors announced a stay-of execution for Saab…for now. GM announced that they will fulfill orders for the new 9-5 and 9-3 Cabriolet. However, this does not mean that GM has abandoned plans to SAAB despite a failed recent bid by Dutch supercar maker Spyker.

"We are preparing a wind-down process. At the same time, we are open to options to bids that come in," a Saab spokesman said.

GM is apparently still entertaining potential buyers for Saab. A revised Spyker bid is in play, as well as American company Merbanco, Inc. There has been speculation that the fine cars that Saab makes might not entirely go to waste, with GM possibly transferring the new 9-5 sedan to the Buick name.

12/20/09 Following Friday's announcement that GM will begin the orderly wind down of Saab, GM has received inquiries from several parties. We will evaluate each inquiry. We will not comment further until these evaluations have been completed. GM PR
