Failed GP venue Donington’s woes deepen
After F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone recently left open the door to a new deal for the British grand prix at the Leicestershire track, he then signed a 17-year deal with Silverstone and announced that Donington's GP hopes were "dead".
The track, under the control of administrators in the wake of the failed F1 funding schemes and currently unusable due to abandoned construction works, had already lost its blue-riband MotoGP race, also to Silverstone.
According to a report in the local Derby Telegraph, Donington's round of the 2010 British Superbike series will also no longer take place.
The championship's promoter Jonathan Palmer said: "It is very important for the teams, our broadcast and commercial partners and above all the fans that we prepare a calendar consisting of venues where there is no doubt about whether or not the event will actually take place."
At the time of writing, Donington Park's official website carried only a message announcing that the service is "unavailable".
