Kahne talks about his switch to Fords in 2010

Kasey Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion, will be making his on-track debut with the manufacturer during a Goodyear tire test next week at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Kahne, who finished 10th in the recently concluded NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, recently spoke about Richard Petty Motorsports switching to Ford.

KASEY KAHNE – No. 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion – YOUR TEAM HAS GONE THROUGH A LOT OF CHANGES THROUGH THE YEARS, BUT THE 9 CAR HAS ALWAYS WON. THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT YOU AND YOUR GUYS. “Yeah, I think it shows that we’re used to changes and used to them always throwing something new at us and just kind of taking care of our business and taking care of the things that we can control. As a driver, I try to do the best job I can with things I can control, and I know Kenny Francis and all the guys on our team do the same thing. So it’s nice to have that type of a team that realizes, ‘Let’s do the best we can at what we can control,’ and, other than that, we’ll get what we get."

ANY PLANS DURING THE OFF-SEASON? “I’ll probably just stay in North Carolina a lot and relax. We’ll get prepared for next season. There are some photo shoots, commercials, a tire test and maybe a little vacation at some point in there."

WHEN DO YOU GET SERIOUS ABOUT GOING BACK TO DAYTONA AND GOING TO WORK? “I’m already serious about it. I’m already working hard on being prepared and going through things and trying to figure out how I can be a better driver as far as communication goes and feel better after the races and work better with my team. Hopefully, it all pays off and we work really hard and we’re ready to go when we get to the 500."

DO YOU FEEL THE ROUSH YATES ENGINE IS THE MISSING INGREDIENT FOR YOUR TEAM TO TAKE THAT NEXT STEP TO CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER? “Just seeing what Elliott and AJ did, and knowing where they were before that, it’s gonna be a nice benefit. I get to go drive with it in a few days at Fontana during a tire test there, so I’m looking forward to working with some of that new group and our guys as well. I’m excited because it’s a change and it’s a change that needed to be done in that area."
