Lazier to hang up gloves for politics

Buddy Lazier has announced he'll be entering a different kind of race. Lazier, an Indianapolis 500 winner and IndyCar Series champion, is a candidate for one of the four open seats on the Vail (Colo.) Town Council in November.

"At this period in time, I have the time and I want to contribute," said Lazier, 41, a lifelong Vail resident. "I've weighed the time that it takes to do it right, and by running, I'm making a commitment that I'm willing and able to put in the heavy hours."

Lazier and his father, Bob, own the Tivoli Lodge in Vail, and competing in Indy car racing for 25 years means he knows about marketing, he said. "I bring a strong background of service to a lot of our guests," Lazier said. Indycar.com
