Monza curb height lowered at first chicane

(GMM) The new high curbs at the first chicane were reduced in height following criticism on the first day of the Italian GP weekend.

"For me, these things are a safety risk," Toyota's Timo Glock, who had a violent spin over the new 'combination curbs' in morning practice, told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.

He also said damage to the front wing and even the monocoque is possible if a driver strikes the curbs at the wrong angle.

FIA race director Charlie Whiting responded by insisting the curbs at both the first and second chicanes at Monza are actually "only two inches higher" than last year.

He also revealed that the same sort of curbs are used at Montreal, the Nurburgring and Barcelona.

But it is believed the FIA responded by lowering the curbs at least at the first chicane because they may have dissuaded drivers from attempting overtaking moves.
