Force India rules out KERS

(GMM) Boss Vijay Mallya has ruled out adding KERS to Force India's car package with five races to go in 2009.

After the privateer Silverstone based team's maiden pole position, podium and points at Spa-Francorchamps, it is suggested that rival teams Ferrari and McLaren will have a significant advantage at Monza next weekend due to their energy-recovery KERS 'boost' systems.

Force India's technical deal with McLaren-Mercedes means that arguably the best and lightest KERS unit would be available to the team, and it is believed the VJM02 would accommodate the system with only minor modifications necessary.

But also considering that KERS is not to be used by FOTA members next year, Mallya told the Indian news agency PTI that introducing the technology now is "impossible".

"It weighs a good 30 kilos, changes the entire balance of the car and just for five races, well, I think it's useless," he said.
