Williams not willing to close factory in future

(GMM) Williams' chief executive has warned against future attempts to close formula one team factories during the summer break.

On the grounds of cost-cutting, all teams have agreed to the FOTA initiative to shut down completely for a two-week period in between Sunday's Hungarian grand prix and the Valencia race late next month.

And while non-FOTA member Williams has gone along with the move, its chief executive Adam Parr said on Tuesday the Grove based team has "no intention of ever doing it again".

"It's a complete waste of time," he told Reuters. "It will increase our costs, it won't reduce them."

Parr explained that with a 2010 car inevitably needing to roll out onto a winter test circuit early next year, the factory closure will only lead to the need for a more intensive period at some point post the August closures.

A separate rationale for the closure, however, is the fact that with no factory activity with the exception of maintenance and security allowed, the tired formula one fraternity can now look forward to a genuine break.

"We can't keep pushing them at the rate they are going. They deserve two weeks off and will come back fully charged and pumped up for Valencia onwards," said Red Bull's Christian Horner.
