Furious Barrichello slams Brawn team, next to be sacked?

Rubens Barrichello blasts Brawn GP team after the German Grand Prix. Was this the sound of burning bridges?

UPDATE (GMM) Despite Sir Frank Williams believing Rubens Barrichello's post-race comments were a "red card offence", the Brazilian's own team boss has played down the outburst.

After leading early but ultimately finishing just sixth, 37-year-old Barrichello said the Nurburgring had been a "good show from the team on how to lose a race", adding he did not want to go to the post-race debrief because "it will be all 'bla bla bla'".

His former team boss Eddie Jordan was concerned the outburst was a "grave mistake", but Ross Brawn put it down to sheer frustration and "passion".

"That's a frustrated racing driver," said Brawn, when he heard about Barrichello's comments.

"When you get out of a car thinking you should have won a race, and you haven't got all the facts, that can happen.

"It's a passion some drivers have," he added, noting that Barrichello had not been kept fully informed during the race due to a faulty radio.

"Once he has calmed down … sits down and looks at all the numbers he will realize we were too slow. There was no capacity to win the race," Brawn said.

In Brawn GP's official post-race media statement, Barrichello was quoted as saying the reasons for his failure to win "are now very clear to me having spoken to the team".

07/12/09 (GMM) Rubens Barrichello slammed his Brawn team after finishing the German grand prix just sixth.

The Brazilian beat eventual winner Mark Webber off the line at the start of the Nurburgring race but by lap 20 was losing a lot of time behind Felipe Massa after his first pitstop.

At his second stop he had a fuel rig problem, and he lost fifth place to championship leading teammate Jenson Button after his third, both drivers reporting tire degradation issues.

"It was a good show from the team on how to lose a race today," the veteran Brazilian told the BBC immediately after the race.

"I'm terribly upset with the way things went. I did all I had to do. I went first on the first corner and then they made me lose the race.

"If it is really what's going on, we're going to end up losing both championships. I feel sorry for myself, the team.

"To be very honest, I wish I could get on the plane and go home. I don't want to talk to anyone in the team. It will be all 'bla bla bla' and I don't want to hear that," he added.

Barrichello's former boss and now British television pundit Eddie Jordan described the outburst as a "grave mistake". [Editor's Note: Could we see Barrichello sacked by the Brawn team before long?]
