De la Rosa hails new Spanish test track

(GMM) A new circuit in Spain hopes to be used for formula one testing, McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa said on Thursday.

The 37-year-old is involved with the project for the Motorland Aragon venue, whose construction in the Spanish municipality of Alcaniz, overseen by renowned F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke, began early last year.

"The combination of long straight and replication of known corners make it an ideal test track," de la Rosa said at the Autosport International show in Birmingham.

"Formula one teams can go there and develop their aerodynamic packages or test with certain tracks on the calendar in mind," he added.

The first racing at the circuit, courtesy of the World Series by Renault, will take place later this year.
