Johnson shocked his attorney may be going to jail

Jimmie Johnson said Friday he was “shocked" to learn of the tax-evasion charges made against his friend and attorney Alan Miller. Miller, a prominent attorney who represents several NASCAR drivers, including Johnson and Casey Mears, was indicted Thursday for allegedly helping IndyCar Series driver Helio Castroneves hide millions of dollars in income.

A federal indictment accuses Miller of directing Castroneves in failing to report $5.55 million in income to the Internal Revenue Service between 1999 and 2002. He faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted. Johnson said he will maintain a relationship with Miller until he learns all the facts.

“At this time, Alan has been my attorney since I was 15, has been a great friend and has helped me with a lot of different things," Johnson said Friday. “As of now, everything is still the same. [I’m] learning a lot as time goes on here, and there’s still a lot to be investigated and uncovered moving forward. I’m certainly keeping my eyes on the subject and trying to figure out what’s all going on."
