New logo, new look for LB Grand Prix

The April 16-19, 2009 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will have a decidedly new look for its 35th anniversary.

Today, the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach rolled out an all-new race logo, the event's first logo change since 1987, reflecting the debut of the IndyCar Series after years of Formula One, CART and Champ Car racing on the historic street course.

The colorful new logo features an IndyCar against a background of a city street, palm trees and an updated artistic rendition of the Long Beach skyline.

"With the beginning of the new IndyCar era at Long Beach, it was appropriate that the logo be updated," said Jim Michaelian, president and CEO of the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach. "The new logo captures the dynamic nature of our event, and, happily, it coincides with our 35th anniversary weekend which will feature Helio Castroneves, Danica Patrick, Graham Rahal, Marco Andretti and the rest of the series stars on circuit in IndyCars for the first time.

"It promises to be quite a celebration."

Additionally, the official Web site of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, www.gplb.com, has been updated to reflect the look of the new logo and the debut of IndyCar.

The 2009 Grand Prix race weekend will also include the annual Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, the popular American Le Mans Series race and the Formula Drift event. Two more racing series for the weekend will be announced in the coming months.

The period for customer renewal of reserved-seat tickets is underway and continues through Friday, Sept. 26. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning Monday, Oct. 6.
