IMSA hires Atlantics race director

The International Motor Sports Association announced today that Beaux Barfield will take the position of Race Director for the 2008 IMSA Challenge by Michelin season. The Houston resident will begin his duties immediately.

Barfield’s background consists of 24 years of motorsports management experience, working with a variety of sanctioning bodies. Among his previous duties included 2006 IMSA GT3 Cup Race Director; Race Director, Champ Car Atlantic Championship for the last two years; Steward, Champ Car World Series; Race Director, Trans-Am Series; and Chief Steward, Formula Ford 2000.

“Our competitors deserve our undivided attention," said Tim Mayer, IMSA COO. “Bringing Beaux on board ensures that we have both a dedicated Race Director and the right level of expertise to work with this growing series."

“I am excited to be a part of the IMSA family," Barfield said. “Although most of my officiating and driving career has been with open-wheel cars, my heart has been in sports car racing since I was a child. I am looking forward to returning to as Race Director for the IMSA Challenge by Michelin in addition to becoming involved with the American Le Mans Series and the Star Mazda Championship. IMSA has great momentum and stability, and will allow me to take my officiating to a higher level."

The IMSA Challenge by Michelin opens its season with the American Le Mans Series at Sebring.
