Ambrose going Nationwide

The Nationwide (nee Busch) Series’ resident multinational is giving the Sprint (nee Nextel) Cup Series a shot next year.

On a week-to-week basis, Aussie driver Marcos Ambrose will continue competing regularly in the second-string series, but he is slated to compete in 12 Cup races next year for Wood Brothers/JTG Racing.

After a year of Craftsman Truck and another of Busch racing, Ambrose said: “It’s a lot tougher than it looks.

“It takes its toll on you personally and physically over the course of the year, and I just think I’ve learned to pace myself better at the end of the season than at the start."

Ambrose, who cut his teeth road racing, pronounced himself a full-fledged convert to the ovals.

“I hadn’t really experienced the ovals until I came over the NASCAR to drive these stock cars," he said, “and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to road-course racing full-time because it’s just so much fun and so dynamic and exciting."
