Garza to drive for Team Mexico

While the A1 Team Mexico was taking the decision of who would be the one to drive Mexico’s car in the next race of the A1GP, the driver from Monterrey, Mexico, David Garza Perez traveled to South Africa to take part in a successful race program called Sunshine Testing looking to adapt as soon as possible to a similar car as the one he would drive in case of being selected to represent his country. After two excellent and profitable days of testing, in which the race crew of the “Sunshine Testing" and the Team Manager of A1 Team Mexico, Les Jones supervised the performance of David, the decision was taken for David to be the driver who will represent Mexico on the December 14-16 race in Zhuhai. The young Mexican racing sensation not only met the expectations but also surprised Jones after posting his best time really close the track record under less optimal weather conditions. “King David" posted a time of 1´29.100 only .500 hundredths of a second from the best time for a V6 in the Phakisa track (made in October under cooler weather conditions by a driver who knew the car and the track).

“We’ve taken a very tough decision here today in South Africa", declared Les Jones. “Michel (Jourdain) have been doing a good job so far and it wasn’t easy to take this decision, but on the other hand, after what David has shown us this last few days here in the Phakisa track, I think he (David) deserves the opportunity to represent his country in the A1GP" explained the Technical Director of Team Craft, (organization that provides technical, logistical and mechanic support to A1 Team Mexico). “David has shown a lot of courage and resources especially in the high speed corners that are extremely important in A1GP", he added. “He has the speed and the necessary talent to do a good job, but especially he is committed and wants to do it, and that’s very important", he emphasized. “He is a very professional young man, with a lot of knowledge of the car. He knows how to listen, he learns fast and he is open to any suggestion, so this makes me calm with the decision that we’re taking", finalized Jones.

After knowing the decision taken by the Team Manager, Garza Perez said that, “he was delighted and very excited for the opportunity to represent his country in an international category of such level". “I can no longer wait to get into the car in China", he declared. “Before I came here I felt certain uncertainty for not knowing the track, nor the car, the people, or what they were expecting from me, but after these few days I can declare myself happy and satisfied with what we’ve achieved", he assured. “I want to thank Les (Jones), Greg (Canny), Alan (Eve) and the whole crew of the Sunshine Testing because without them this would have never been possible", he assured. “We came to South Africa and I didn’t know what to expect, but we found an excellent group of people, a great car and a very good track in where we did 127 laps (533 km) without a single problem and in a very professional way". And he finished saying that “The most difficult part is still to come, but without a doubt my Champ Car Atlantic experience plus the extra mileage gained here will help me to give the best of me and to represent México the way is should be next week in China".

David Garza will travel tomorrow to Hong Kong to take a ferry to Zhuhai where the Mexican driver will have the privilege to represent Mexico on December 14-16.
