Rosberg’s engine undamaged at Indy
Williams' FW29 single seaters are this year powered by semi-works Toyota engines; and one did not expire on Indianapolis' road course layout nearly two weeks ago, technical director Michael insisted to Auto Motor und Sport magazine.
The Australian explained that an electrical fire set spilled oil ablaze — but that the 2.4 liter V8 remains in working order.
"Theoretically we could use it again at Magny Cours," he said, "but since we can change it anyway without penalty we might as well give him a fresh engine (for the French GP)."
The team's post-race investigation also showed that the oil fire melted Rosberg's rear suspension, meaning that he was lucky to escape a Ralf Schumacher-type impact against the Speedway walls.
Sam Michael said of the reliability problems encountered in America: "We now have solid solutions in place."
