Video: The work of an F1 race engineer

The work of a race engineer is key to the success of a Formula One team such as Panasonic Toyota Racing. Francesco Nenci and Gianluca Pisanello, the Italian race engineers for the Team provide a link between their drivers – Gianluca works with Jarno Trulli and Francesco works with Ralf Schumacher – and the engineers and mechanics working in the garage and paddock offices. Spending around two thirds of each year on the road, race engineers travel to races and tests to help drivers dissecting the latest data from a practice session or making make-or-break decisions via the radio during qualifying or the race, in order to give them the fastest possible car.
