Indy 500 to be broadcast in High-Def

The Indianapolis 500 is finally going to air in high definition digital television this year. The technology has been available for nearly three years, but Indianapolis Motor Speedway and ESPN Sports officials have decided this is the year to switch equipment. ESPN Sports, in conjunction with IMS Productions, delivers all the programming for the May 27 on ABC, plus shows on qualification days. The change required a significant financial investment, perhaps as much as twice that of the standard equipment. Fifty-three cameras will be utilized. IndyStar

[Editor's Note: Any race series not being broadcast in High Definition is bringing less value to their sponsors because the sponsor name is definitely more visible on TV in high-def. All NASCAR races have been shown in high-def for two years now.]
