Seen in Long Beach – 6

Long Beach Grand Prix founder and former CART president Chris Pook (pictured right) was surveying the action at Long Beach on Sunday.

Harry Muermans who supports Robert Doornbos in Champ Car and his son Dominick in the Champ Car Atlantic series was spending time with his friend and movie star Djimon Hounsou (pictured together below left).

Hounsou immigrated to Paris at the age of 13 with a brother, and lived on the streets, until he was discovered by fashion designer Thierry Mugler, who made him a model. Modeling led to acting. His film debut was in Without You I'm Nothing, and he has had television parts on Beverly Hills, 90210 and ER and a guest starring role on Alias, but received a larger role in the science fiction film Stargate. Since then he has done many other movies. Djimon took a ride in the 2-seat Minardi Champ Car and he was thrilled. Like other passengers he banged his head/helmet on the dashboard the first time the driver applied the brakes because he was not ready for it.

We spoke to Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach president Jim Michaelian who said he did not have exact attendance numbers but "we were definitely up all three days over last year."

Charles Zwolsman (pictured right) showed up on Sunday surveying the action and still trying to put a deal together to get back into Champ Car.
