NASCAR co-founder’s son facing harassment suit

WEST PALM BEACH — The 77-year-old namesake of NASCAR co-founder Edgar Otto on Tuesday was slapped with a sexual harassment lawsuit by a former employee.

The six-page lawsuit, filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court, recounts in graphic detail the various ways Edgar Otto Jr. allegedly harassed 56-year-old Joyce Petrarca. It lists offensive comments he allegedly made and claims he touched her inappropriately, including "grabbing her face to forcibly kiss her."

Attorney Gary Isaacs, who represents Petrarca, said his client worked for Otto for several months last year. When she told Otto his conduct was unacceptable, she was fired, he said.

Petrarca was particularly vulnerable at the time, Isaacs said. Her husband, an insurance agent, in May was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in a $1.1 million Ponzi scheme. He and a partner persuaded 31 people to give them money to invest in annuity plans and instead kept the money.
