01/29/07 SPEED will offer NASCAR fans a first look at footage from the upcoming National Geographic Channel special entitled “Moonshine" Wednesday night on “NASCAR Preseason Thunder" at 7 p.m. ET.

It is called “Moonshine," “Rot Gut" or even “White Lightning." It is the rebel liquor that sparked a deadly war between bootleggers and the law during prohibition and launched NASCAR as a nationwide sensation. Who created “Moonshine"? What crafty tricks keep these outlaws one step ahead of the law? And is “Moonshine" safe to drink? National Geographic Channels travels to the Appalachian backwoods to uncover the secrets behind this unlawful liquor. Meet Junior Johnson, the legendary NASCAR driver who got his start as a “Moonshine" hauler, and the late Benny Parsons, a legendary NASCAR Champion, and head to the Indy Racing League track to see who is really putting “Moonshine" in their tanks.

The National Geographic Channel world premiere of “Moonshine" is scheduled for Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. ET. Unedited footage from the special will be available on NGC.com and SPEEDtv.com later this week.
