Conway signs with Super Nova

Leading British race driver, Mike Conway announced his plans for 2007 on the main stage at Autosport International Show, Birmingham NEC today. He will contest the 2007 GP2 Series with Super Nova International, one of the leading GP2 teams led by David Sears.

Conway tested with the Super Nova team in October last year, finishing inside the top ten at the end of the first day. He successfully concluded a deal to race for the Norfolk based team early in 2007.

The 23-year-old Kent driver says of his upcoming season, "I'm very happy to have my deal secured for this season and I can now concentrate on preparing myself for this new challenge. Super Nova are a successful GP2 outfit with the experience and resources to compete for podiums and wins. I was very comfortable working with them at the Valencia test last year and gelled easily with the team, so I'm looking forward to the year ahead.

"My goal is obviously to win races and my ultimate aim is to contend for the championship title. But it's a very strong field of drivers that I'll be up against, so it'll be a tough task. I know most of the circuits and I've already sampled a GP2 race weekend; I hope this will be an advantage for me. It's an exciting championship to be a part of, and the tracks we visit are world-class, starting with the awesome Bahrain facility; I'm ready for the task ahead. Racing in front of the F1 fraternity also adds to the pressures of racing at this high level, but it's also one of the big attractions. I'm focusing on testing for the immediate future and hoping to have as successful a year as 2006!"

Conway had an outstanding year of racing in 2006. He was crowned champion of the British F3 International Series title in September driving with Räikkönen Robertson Racing. Ten pole positions and ten victories secured him the title of this prestigious championship. He followed this by winning the Macau F3 Grand Prix, a blue-riband international single seater race event.

The Brit's success led to more accolades including being presented with the National Racing Driver of the Year Autosport Award and the BRDC Spencer-Charrington Trophy as top British driver in the British F3 International Series.

The GP2 Series is a recognized 'feeder' series for the FIA Formula One World Championship, the final step of the motor racing ladder for Conway. Each team uses the same chassis, engine and tires to provide a level playing field that focuses on driver skill and team performance. The 2007 season starts on 13 April at Bahrain International Circuit. Prior to this, the first of three test sessions will be held at Paul Ricard circuit in France from 21 – 22 February.
