Johnny Herbert loses F1 job

(GMM) The Silverstone based team's sporting director, Johnny Herbert, will not have his contract renewed by new owners Spyker.

The former grand prix driver was employed by Midland last year in an image-enhancing role, so as to present a familiar and friendly face predominantly to the British press.

But Herbert, 42, has failed to achieve a contract extension by Dutch carmaker Spyker, who at Monza completed their takeover of the team.

Herbert's contract runs out on Saturday.

''Spyker-MF1 is a new team with a new image,'' the team's manager of business affairs, Ian Phillips, was quoted as saying by Formule 1 RaceReport.
