Race Fans Can “Drive The Mileâ€� This Sunday

Auto racing fans who have watched the likes of Rusty Wallace, Alan Kulwicki, Al and Bobby Unser, A.J. Foyt and countless other driving heroes from the grandstands at The Milwaukee Mile will get their chance to “Drive The Mile" this Sunday from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

Individuals can drive their personal vehicle on The Milwaukee Mile, with proceeds benefiting Hunger Task Force. Work trucks, classic cars, motorcycles, limousines, passenger cars and even a hearse been spotted taking laps in previous “Drive The Mile" events at America’s Legendary Oval.

Admission for taking "three laps of fame" is two non-perishable food items AND $15.

Several hundred car club enthusiasts have expressed interest in taking laps in the early morning hours, then displaying their cars throughout the day in the paddock area. In addition to the car show, a free-to-participate swap meet and car corral will fill the pit area, with food and refreshments available. Music by Dietrich will entertain with his impressive collection of automobile-related music.

Participants are welcome to bring their camera to have their picture taken in Victory Lane, or have their photo taken for $5, with proceeds going to Hunger Task Force.

Drivers must be 18 years of age or older, present a valid driver’s license AND proof of current vehicle insurance. Each driver must pay $15 to drive a car three laps. There is no age limit to riding in a vehicle.

The Milwaukee Mile’s Gilbert Brown, former Green Bay Packer and avid auto enthusiast, will climb behind the wheel of a 1957 Chevrolet race car. He’ll be participating with the Grand National Vintage Racing group throughout the day, as well as taking racing hot laps with other racers from 2:00pm until 3:00pm.
