Indy racing alliance sees growth via business network

Indiana just might have the world's largest and most diverse cluster of motorsports race teams, skilled craftsmen and related businesses. But the industry is so fragmented that an engine builder might not know about a valve-cover designer who works a few blocks away.

A newly formed association wants to change that — and give thousands of industry workers a chance to work together more closely.

That's the goal of Tom Weisenbach, who started Monday as the first executive director of the fledgling Indiana Motorsports Association.

Weisenbach's goal is to lure the independent-minded business owners into the association to let them meet people who can help them win the next race or contract.

"We have so much already here in the state," Weisenbach said. "It's important that we bring it all in." More at Indy Star
