Audi fastest Saturday morning in Sonoma

For the second day in a row, the No. 2 Champion Racing Audi R8 of Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro posted the fastest time in Saturday morning's practice session, a few hours before the afternoon qualifying for the Infineon Technologies Grand Prix of Sonoma presented by Ravenswood Winery. The car posted a lap of 1:22.443 in the final five minutes of the one-hour session.

The No. 1 Champion Racing Audi R8 of Marco Werner and JJ Lehto was 0.27 seconds back, followed by the No. 20 Dyson Racing Lola EX257 of Andy Wallace and Chris Dyson at 1:22.720.

The biggest gain from Friday to Saturday among the class leaders was the No. 37 Intersport Racing Lola B05/40 of Clint Field and Liz Halliday. The car turned a fast lap of 1:25.694 on Saturday, more than two seconds quicker than its time Friday afternoon. Second in class was the No. 10 Miracle Motorsports Courage C65 of Jeff Bucknum and Chris McMurry at 1:26.401.

In GT1 Corvette Racing again set the pace, going 1-2 on the speed chart. For the second straight day, the No. 4 Corvette C6-R of Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta set the pace with a pass of 1:29.052. About a half second back was the No. 3 sister car of Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell. The No. 63 ACEMCO Saleen S7R of Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem was another second back.

Timo Bernhard and Romain Dumas were fastest in GT2 at 1:34.580. Their No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche was a tick more than 0.2 seconds ahead of the No. 31 Petersen Motorsports/White Lightning Racing Porsche of Jorg Bergmeister and Patrick Long. Third was the No. 50 Panoz Motor Sports Esperante of Bill Auberlen and Robin Liddell at 1:36.086.
