Montoya fast despite engine woes

The West McLaren Mercedes team began a three day test at the Circuito de Jerez in Spain on Wednesday, with Juan Pablo, Kimi and Alex sharing the week's testing duties. This week also marks the team's final testing session before the six week summer test ban comes into force. Juan Pablo and Alex were in action in extremely hot conditions, the track temperature reaching 51 degrees Celsius and both drivers were behind the wheel of MP4-20s.

Juan Pablo's program included Michelin tire testing of the prime and option tire for the forthcoming Mobil 1 German Grand Prix, alongside suspension and aero development work. His program was interrupted early on due to an engine oil leak. After returning to the track in the afternoon he suffered an engine failure.

Alex meanwhile was working on a tire program for the Mobil 1 German Grand Prix, completing short runs in the morning and concentrating on heavy fuel loads and longer runs in the afternoon. Juan Pablo was the eighth fastest man on the circuit with a time of 1:18.579, while Alex was ninth setting a time of 1:18.709. McLaren
