Alonso’s car is totaled

RIP Chassis #283

With Fernando Alonso having written off his original race chassis courtesy of his Monaco crash in Saturday practice, Ferrari has now confirmed that the damage is completely unrepairable.

Current rules state that chassis cannot be changed within sessions, meaning Alonso was forced to skip qualifying on Saturday as his team prepared a brand-new chassis ahead of Sunday's race, in which he rose to an eventual sixth place after starting from the pit lane.
However, following further inspections at the team's base in Maranello, the Scuderia has now revealed that the damaged chassis – which was cracked by the impact at Massenet corner – is now permanently out of action.

'It was revealed that the chassis – number 283 -damaged during the accident on Saturday can no longer be used,' a statement reads.

'At the moment it remains to be seen as to which chassis will be made available for Felipe (Massa) and Fernando for the next Grand Prix.' GPUpdate.net
