UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today based on the recent IRL announcement of a threefold increase in the IPS purse for 2006 (won't help, series formula is all wrong) and today's announcement that an Indy Car team will get extra test days if they test an IPS driver. 10/17/05 Word in Fontana was that the IRL will copy Champ Car again. Some business plan when all you do is copy your opponent. We hear that the IRL will offer a $1 million prize to the winner of the IPS championship in 2006 and that number could go up to $3 million in 2007. Sound similar to Champ Car's $2 million prize for the new Atlantic series in 2006? We also hear that IndyCar teams who give IPS drivers a test will get additional test days and more. Word is they have to do this because the IPS Series is not producing the results intended. This won't help because bouncing off walls is cost prohibitive and ovals teach a young driver very little.
