Liuzzi to Ferrari/Sauber

UPDATE #3 This rumor is downgraded to 'speculation' today. (GMM) Ferrari may not have signed a contract with F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi, a comment of technical director Ross Brawn indicated. It was reported recently that the young Italian will spend 2005 in a scarlet test cockpit in view of ultimately succeeding Maranello's world champion Michael Schumacher. But Brawn, at Suzuka, passed over the Liuzzi topic with thrift. ''I don't think there is (a contract),'' he told a post-race reporter. Liuzzi, 23, dominated F1's support category in 2004 and completed a test for Ferrari-powered 'B' team Sauber. 10/05/04 (GMM) Reigning F3000 champion Vitantonio Liuzzi will spend 2005 in a Ferrari cockpit, a source in the Italian media has revealed. The Italian racer, who totally dominated F1's support category this season and was a contender for a Sauber seat, has signed a long-term deal to test in 2005 but ultimately race for the Maranello-based world champions. Liuzzi, 23 and born in Pescara, may graduate from a season of testing to race for Sauber (who uses Ferrari engines) in 2006, the source reported, or even be Hinwil's 'third' driver next year. 08/31/04 This Grandprix.com article says Liuzzi had a secret seat fitting at Sauber, but as we have reported, the deal is basically done – Liuzzi to Sauber in 2005. 08/26/04 We have it on good word that the ink has all but dried on a contract for Italian F3000 sensation Vitantonio Liuzzi to race for Sauber in 2005.
