F1: Miami GP sells out in 1 day, looking to add more seats

F1 is so popular in the USA now that when the Miami GP opened up grandstand ticket sales for the inaugural race in May 2022 this week, they sold out in 1 day. Suites are all sold out as well.

The cheapest three-day tickets started at $600  — or around $200 a day. The most expensive three-day tickets were over $2,200 – and fans could not suck them up fast enough. They went on sale in 6 phases throughout the day and before you could blink an eye they were gone.

You snooze, you lose.

Tom Garfinkel, who also is Vice Chair, President & CEO of the Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, told SBJ that he expects to cap attendance at around 80,000 people per day for the inaugural race next year in order to ensure a proper fan experience that isn’t overcrowded.

Race CEO Richard Cregan said in a statement to SBJ: “We saw the excitement and the great event in Austin this past weekend. The demand for our event has been very high as well, but as it’s our first one, we are trying to stay disciplined to a smaller capacity than the demand would suggest to ensure a great experience for all of our fans in terms of traffic, getting in and out, concessions, bathrooms, etc. We want people to leave on Sunday evening eager to return for 2023.”

Cregan and Garfinkel are now looking to add bleacher seats to accommodate some of the schleppers that missed out buying the better grandstand seats.
