SUPERCARS: 2022 Repco Championship Race Formats Revealed
Supercars can reveal the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship weekend formats including two 300km races at the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight to start the season.
Including the Repco Newcastle 500, this year’s championship will feature at least 34 races, up from the 31 in 2021.
The qualifying system, defined Format 1, Format 2 and Format 3, will also return.
According to the Operations Manual, Format 1 stipulates that grid positions will be determined by the final classification of a single qualifying session.
Format 2 will feature three-part knockout qualifying, with Format 3 knockout qualifying followed by a shootout.
Seven events will feature ARMOR ALL Top Ten Shootouts; Sydney, Darwin, Townsville, Sandown, Bathurst, Gold Coast and Newcastle.
Five events will also feature refueling; the four Super500/600 events feature 140L fuel drops in pit lane.
The Townsville, Gold Coast and Newcastle rounds will be headlined by two 250km races, with Sydney to conduct two 300km races to open the season.
The Repco Bathurst 1000 will, as always, be a 161-lap, 1000km-long single race.
Eight events will feature at least three races under the sprint format.
The sprint events, bar Albert Park, will be headlined by three sprint races.
The Albert Park round will feature four 100km-long races and a four-tire minimum change at stops.
The other sprint rounds will again feature a compulsory stop for a minimum of two tires.
Two rounds will feature racing under lights, being the Sydney season opener and Perth.
The Tasmania, Perth, Winton, Darwin, Tailem Bend and Pukekohe rounds will all be two-day, Saturday-Sunday events.
All events, bar Sandown and Bathurst, will feature two practice sessions.
The Sandown round will feature an Additional Driver session in preparation for the Repco Bathurst 1000.
The 2022 Repco Supercars Championship will commence in March at Sydney Motorsport Park.
