F2: American Sargeant must finish 7th or better in final standings to race in F1

American F2 driver Logan Sargeant is on the cusp of being a Williams F1 driver in 2023. He has already been named to replace Nicholas Latifi if he gets an F1 Super License.

F2 drivers get Super License points as follows at the end of the season

Fort Lauderdale, FL native Sargeant currently has 28 of the 40 points required to earn a F1 Super License.

He sits 3rd in the 2022 standings and needs 12 more Super License Points. He will earn 2 additional Super License points by running Practice 1 Formula 1 practice sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi.

He will earn a minimum of 2 Super License points from his F2 performance even if he DNFs in both final two races of the season

That means he needs to finish 7th or better in the final F2 point standings to get the 8 additional points he needs to reach 40.

With 35 total possible 2022 points on the line in Abu Dhabi, the 4th thru 11th place drivers below could beat Sargeant, should he score zero points in both Abu Dhabi races, which is unlikely unless he crashes out of both races.

There are two races left in the 2022 F2 season – the Sprint Race and the Feature Race in Abu Dhabi.

For the Sprint Race, the top eight classified drivers are awarded 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points respectively.

For the Feature Race, the top 10 finishers will score 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points respectively.
