January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona could have a second active Formula One driver on the grid, with Lance Stroll understood to be in the frame at Jackie Chan DCR JOTA, in a possible ‘all-star’ lineup for the Florida endurance classic.

Multiple sources have indicted to Sportscar365 that Williams F1 driver Stroll, along with Mercedes-AMG-affiliated pilots Felix Rosenqvist and Daniel Juncadella, plus Audi GT3 factory ace Robin Frijns, could make up the lineup in the team’s lead Oreca 07 Gibson.

Leading French publication Auto Hebdo first reported the news on Monday.

Team co-owner David Cheng said last week that one of its LMP2 entries for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener would feature an all-new driver squad to the Chinese-flagged team, which claimed class honors in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The lineup in DC’s second Oreca is expected to consist of Cheng, countryman Ho-Pin Tung and French rising star Thomas Laurent, who tested Toyota’s LMP1 car alongside Fernando Alonso last weekend in Bahrain.

It’s believed confirmation could come as early as next week, once the F1 season concludes in Abu Dhabi.
Team principals at DCR JOTA did not return requests by Sportscar365 for comment.

Should the deal materialize, it would mark Stroll’s second Rolex 24 start, with the 19-year-old Canadian having made his sports car racing debut in a Chip Ganassi Racing-entered Riley Ford DP in 2016, finishing fifth overall.

Stroll made his F1 debut this year, finishing 11th in the championship, with a podium finish in Baku as his season highlight.
