Jimmie Johnson on top at Dover….again!

Jimmie Johnson passed Kyle Larson on the restart in NASCAR Overtime to win today's AAA Drive for Autism 400 at Dover International Speedway. The win was Johnson's third of 2017, and 11th at Monster Mile.

Larson was second with Martin Truex Jr., Ryan Newman and Chase Elliott rounding out the top-5.

The race began with pole sitter Kyle Busch jumping to an early lead over second-place starter Truex. Unfortunately for Busch, his left rear tire was unsecured during a lap 18 pit stop, and the tire detached from the No. 18 Camry upon Busch's exit from the pits. The 2015 champion would make his way back through the field, and run in the top-5 before ultimately finishing 16th.

Truex took the point thereafter and would lead 102 laps. But Kyle Larson in the No. 42 Target Chevrolet would have the fastest car of the day leading 241 of the 400 laps.

And Larson seemed poised to score his third career victory, holding a commanding lead on the field before a caution caused by a David Ragan accident with three laps remaining. The ensuing caution meant the field would be bunched up for one last restart and NASCAR overtime. On the restart second-place Johnson would get the jump on Larson before a wreck on the backstretch involving Ty Dillon, who was running in the top-five and numerous others such as Kasey Kahne and Erik Jones, brought out the caution. However, because Johnson crossed the overtime line before the caution flew, the race was deemed official, and the driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevy had his 83rd career Monster Energy Cup Series victory.

Next up for the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series will be the Axalta presents the Pocono 400 next Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
