Josef Newgarden used pit strategy, as well as a pit incident– caused when Will Power left his pits with 3 wheels — to take the lead and win the first race of the 2019 Detroit Grand Prix.

Alexander Rossi dominated for the first half, but was unable to regain the lead and finished second. Takuma Sato made incredible passes while the track was wet to end up third. Felix Rosenqvist and Ryan Hunter-Reay rounded out the top 5.
