HVM eyes three drivers

UPDATE Now hearing that Glock's management has been talking to the Rocketsports team more than anyone. It will be interesting to see where Hunter-Reay ends up if Rocketsports does indeed sign Glock, though at this point that is by no means a certainty. 02/17/05 AutoRacing1.com sources tell us that the HVM team is talking to David Martinez (Mexican) as well as Bjorn Wirdheim and Timo Glock for their 2nd car. As we understand it, the team and Champ Car recognize the need to groom another young Mexican driver, but HVM is also keen to hire drivers who can win races and it's felt that may be more likely with either Wirdheim or Glock.

If Dominguez goes to F1 there will be a real void of top Mexicans in Champ Car but it is uncertain whether Martinez is the guy to fill that void given his past lackluster performance, though the teams he drove for may be part of his problem. Although the team would have preferred to keep Ryan Hunter-Reay (continuity for the team and for RHR is very important and it would be nice to pick up where they left off last year if they could afford him), working in Wirdheim's and Glock's favor is the fact they have more funding behind them than Hunter-Reay and Martinez. Decisions will probably be made soon. Mark C.
