Dave Blaney has to withdraw from Daytona 500 after big crash

Dave Blaney will not attempt to make the Daytona 500 as his Randy Humphrey Racing team had to withdraw after the Sprint Cup veteran got collected in the big crash Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway.

The team did not have a backup car and could not secure one for the event. His withdrawal leaves 48 drivers vying for 43 spots in the Daytona 500 field, which will be set Thursday night through the 150-mile qualifying races.

Blaney has competed in 12 Daytona 500s with his best 14th in the 2005 event.

Blaney was collected in a wreck when Joey Logano and Matt Kenseth got together in a big pack of traffic during practice Wednesday. Kenseth got into Paul Menard, who slammed into Parker Kligerman, lifting his car off the ground and sending it rolling and sliding on its roof. Several drivers had to go to backup cars after the crash.
