Ferrari hits record half year sales in 2011

When someone mentions the term 'sportscar' the only color that comes to mind is red and the only name that comes to mind is Ferrari. Now, it's reflecting in Ferrari's sales as they hit record high sales in the first half on any year since the marque started manufacturing cars in 1947

Ferrari has delivered 3577 cars in the first six months of this year. A revenue of 1080 million Euros was recorded in the first half of this year which is 11.8% more than last year’s first half sales. Ferrari’s model line up currently consists of the superb 458 Italia and the California which have V8 engines, the 599 GTB Fiorano and the limited edition 599 GTO and SA Aperta.

In addition to Ferrari’s road going cars 176 track oriented versions of the 458 were sold for GT competitions across the globe.

Ferrari has recently delivered the first four Ferrari FFs to customers. The four seater four wheel drive car was extensively tested in the snow covered Alps to prove its unique four wheels drive system. The car has set new standards for four wheel drive performance cars and is bound to be a success. The shooting brake design of the car also makes it stand out in front of other sportscars.

All the Ferrari’s sold in the first half of this year as is expected were customized according to the needs of their customers. The time taken to customize a car for each customer according to their demands also has to be taken into consideration. Ferrari plans to launch a new Tailor Made program from September this year.

The company’s net profit went up to 91.8 million Euros which is a jump of 23.5% over last year’s first half despite heavy investment in product development. North America has maintained its position as Ferrari’s No. 1 market with 939 cars sold during the six month period which is 23.2% more than last year. 378 cars were sold in China in the six month period which makes it Ferrari’s second largest market. Germany has maintained its third position in Ferrari buyers list with 337 cars in the period.

The Chairman of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, commented by saying, “If the trend for the first six months continues at these levels in the second half of the year, 2011 will be remembered as one of the best in Ferrari’s history, taking us back to the record results of 2008. This is a demonstration of the soundness of the strategy we’ve adopted in terms of market expansion and constant product innovation. Furthermore, we also recently began deliveries of the new FF and we’re taking our first orders from India – the impact of both of these factors will only be seen in the second half of 2011."

Ferrari’s retail sales also grew by 45%, a chunk of the contribution to those sales came from its store in the Ferrari theme park in Abu Dhabi which recently received its 600000th visitor. Its licensing partnership with Puma has also been extended this year.
