U.S. Grand Prix clears another hurdle

The Austin Grand prix site has been approved to begin clearing trees, etc. Promoters of the event, Full Throttle Productions, have been told by F1 officials to have the circuit ready by June 2012, although the race will not be assigned a date until late 2011.

The promoters’ attorney, Richard Suttle, also said that, after analyzing new flood plain data, it was determined neither the track nor any of the parking would fall in the 100-year flood plain at the site southeast of Austin.

Next up for the project is the City Council. Promoters are still hoping to break ground in December.
