Martin’s racing career may be over after Homestead

Mark Martin

Mark Martin's legendary racing career may be over after next week. While he wouldn't use the "retirement" word Friday while talking with reporters he says the word has burned him in the past Martin strongly hinted he would not race in 2014 and beyond. Martin said he made the decision not to race in January and has kept it between his friends and family. When he finished third in February's Daytona 500, he said he was pleased knowing it would be his last one. "It's time for me to open a new chapter," Martin said during a 24-minute interview Friday at Phoenix International Raceway. Martin will do testing next season for Stewart-Haas Racing, where he currently drives. He will test Tony Stewart's No. 14 car in January at Daytona, then attend most or all of SHR's tests in 2014 to provide feedback or a second opinion. USA Today
